SYNOPSIS: The entirety of this rich, labyrinthian novel is told on a single day from within the steamy stone walls of Friedrichsbad, a spring-fed, Roman-style bathhouse on the edge of The Black Forest in the seemingly serene German village of Baden-Baden. The story, told in alternating chapters by two esoteric protagonists, follows the bathers as they follow each other from pool to pool through the seventeen distinct stages of the bathhouse. As the heat and dehydration intensifies so, too, does the narration, until hundreds of years of lascivious history bubble to the surface and are callously scrubbed away in this bold debut by newcomer Warren Hahn.

Originally released in 2013 and developed exclusively for the debut of Spruce Apothecary, a modern apothecary shop in Portland’s West End promenade Union Way, this beloved fragrance made limited appearances over the years and is now available exclusively in our Rare Book Room.

James ★★★★★

The citrus-herbal opening settles into something so soft and clean, it genuinely feels like a spa break in the middle of my shift. I spritz it after my morning shower and catch whiffs of calm all day, but the bottle is small enough to toss in my bag for a 2 p.m. refresh.

Emily K. ★★★★★

I keep one on my desk for the 3 p.m. slump, and one spritz genuinely shifts my mood toward calm. It’s light enough for a full workday, but the lingering softness after a hot shower feels like a spa break I actually took.

Aurora ★★★★★

The mist settles so softly after my morning shower that it feels like a lighter layer of calm before I even get dressed. I keep the bottle on my desk and give one quick spray mid-afternoon, and it instantly pulls me back to that spa mindset without being loud or clingy.
