SYNOPSIS : Claude LeCoq a publié son premier livre, The Soft Lawn, en 1916 alors qu'il était encore étudiant à l'université de Princeton. Portrait controversé de la rébellion adolescente de la classe supérieure en Nouvelle-Angleterre, ce récit d'apprentissage suit Hampton Perry, un champion de tennis universitaire charmant et snob qui, après des années à recevoir tout sur un plateau d'argent, se retrouve à tout rendre.

Un fait peu connu sur l'auteur : Claude LeCoq ne portait que des costumes en seersucker, connus à cette époque comme la garde-robe des pauvres, et c'est sa présence galante lors de dîners de la haute société et d'événements sportifs prestigieux qui a popularisé ce tissu parmi les nantis dans les années 20.
